Terms of Reference: Private Markets Forum

Objective:

  • To advance the private markets industry by fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and best practices among key stakeholders.
  • Responding with a clear voice to the eventuality of Pisces and other ongoing industry changes and trends.
  • To provide a platform for discussion and engagement on the evolving landscape of private markets, including trends, challenges, and opportunities.

Key Outcomes:

  • Industry Advancement: Drive innovation and growth in the private markets sector through thought leadership and collaborative initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships among key industry participants, including inter alia investors, fund managers, service providers, and regulators.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate the exchange of insights and expertise on key topics such as market trends and regulatory developments.
  • Best Practices: Develop and promote industry best practices to enhance transparency, efficiency, and investor protection.
  • Advocacy: Represent the interests of the private markets industry and advocate for policies that support its growth and development.

Forum Structure:

  • Membership: Comprised of industry participants, covering a cross-section of the industry:
    1. Membership will be governed by the Membership Policy, outlined separately and ensuring fairness and transparency in both member selection and Board member selection.
    2. New members will be admitted on an ad-hoc basis as requested and approved by the Board.
    3. New Board selection will have an annual cadence and governed by the Membership Policy.
  • Board (Steering Committee): A committee, elected from the members will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Forum and overseeing its activities will be formed.
  • Working Groups: Focused groups addressing specific areas of interest, such as regulatory affairs, market access, ESG, and technology.
  • Funding: funding may be required initially, work will start on a voluntary basis until such time as funding is required. Following which a paid membership type structure may be formed.

Key Activities:

  • Research and Publications: Conduct research and publish thought leadership on key industry trends and issues.
  • Collaboration: Organise responses to industry events, changes and developments, like Pisces.
  • Policy Advocacy: Engage with policymakers and regulators to promote a favorable regulatory environment for private markets.
  • Education and Training: Develop educational programs and resources to enhance industry knowledge and expertise.
  • Networking and Collaboration: Facilitate networking opportunities and collaboration among industry participants.

  • The Forum’s effectiveness will be evaluated on an ongoing basis based on its ability to achieve its key outcomes.
